Scheduled Downtimeโ€‹

On Tuesday July 14, 2026, the Hyak team will perform scheduled maintenance on both the Tillicum and Klone clusters:

  • Tillicum Maintenance: 9:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM
  • Hyak Klone Maintenance: 9:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM
  • Kopah object storage and Globus services will be unavailable during the switch reboot.

Maintenance reservations are in place. This maintenance window will include routine system updates, a reboot of a core network switch, and other infrastructure maintenance to help ensure the continued reliability and performance of our services.

Looking Ahead: Extended August Maintenanceโ€‹

We also want to provide advance notice that our August Klone maintenance will be an extended maintenance window spanning Tuesday, August 11 at 9:00 AM through Wednesday, August 12 at 5:00 PM. During this maintenance, we will migrate Klone's node provisioning system. This work will retire deprecated software, simplify cluster administration, and align Klone's management infrastructure with Tillicum, making it easier for us to maintain both systems consistently going forward.

Important Storage Reminder for Hyak Kloneโ€‹

Hyak Klone does not provide backup, persistent storage, or archival storage. All data on Klone exists as a single copy and is therefore vulnerable to loss due to hardware failure, filesystem issues, facility damage, or natural disasters. Users are solely responsible for transferring important results to external systems (for example, Kopah S3 or Lolo Archive) during the course of their project if persistent or long-term storage is required. Retaining long-term or archival data on Klone is against administrative guidance.

Office Hours Updateโ€‹

As a reminder, we will continue hosting HPC office hours through the summer online. Cloud office hours will be postponed until the Fall term due to low attendance. We will continue to offer Cloud Office Hours by appointment through the summer.
